SEEDS
The urban seeds planted, will be the starting point of a slow and ramified process, that is the creating of a new city, with its multiple discourses, challenges and questions.
The process of this evolution is not to be interpreted as a linear development but as a collective of developments where each branch is independent but simultaneously all branches relate to each other.
Each proposal is intertwined where one influences the other, all having a purpose and place in the new Mannheim.
Every path will start out as a seed of urban development. From them several branches will emerge and mark the path that leads to the evolution of the city.

ECO MOBILITY
The formation of this seed aims to create a network of roads that are designed to decrease the traffic on the B38 highway. By creating a new mobility system based on the pedestrian, cycling and public transport, it will unite the city to its principal green zone Käfertaler Wald.
This treatment of public transport will produce a redistribution of the bus lines that will cover new areas previously occupied by the military, as is the case with the tram, creating between them a belt of transportation in the area. This system is complemented by a network of bicycle rentals and two exchangers located in Kafertal and Taylor Barracks. That would efficiently connect both new spaces, created by this transformation as well as the neighbourhoods that are separated by the B38 highway.

INDUSTRIAL MILE
The aim would be to improve the connections between the already existing business sector and the new prospective businesses in the zone of the B38. A greater ease of access will create an attractive area to form a new sector of developing businesses in Mannheim.
Having the image of sustainability, as this proposal suggest, will facilitate the establishment of companies that are based on research and development of the environment and industries that have respect for the environment as their priority.
A new concept of industry for a new concept of a city.
The creation of this productive section will help, along with the facilities that would appear in the area, the establishment of the area as a centre of attraction and activity.

THE AGRICULTURAL BELT
The consolidation around the area of the agricultural belt can improve new models of industry and sustainable development, resulting in a chain of productions covering all sectors. The relationship between the urban and rural environment will grow and produce a symbiosis that will improve the quality of life. The urban seeds of facilities and services are exported to rural areas and at the same time models of agricultural household productions will be introduced in the city as a «urban gardens» self-managed, helping to foster self-cultivation and natural and sustainable production.

GREEN DEVELOPMENT
A new green zone can be configured by different actions of landscaping, designed to reduce the aesthetically aggressive characteristics of the B38 and its impact on the surrounding area.
The park embraces and dilutes the highway, visually making the entrance to the city more pleasant, natural and green.
New plant barriers will reduce pollution, both visual acoustic produced by the highway and nearby buildings.
The roads and paths throughout the park for both pedestrians and bicycles, will help to connect different neighbourhoods together that are otherwise separated by the B38 highway.
The solution to the obstacle of the B38 can be solved with a smooth and fluid elevated walkways over the highway and under the highway in certain places all in order to increase the visual continuity of the park and its role as connector to different areas.

ACTIVE DENSIFICATION
Throughout the entire area of operation equipment seeds are introduced to complete the applications and services needed for each of the affected neighbourhoods. These seeds will meet the needs of each area, adding the necessary elements to generate the city.
These new uses are mixed with existing buildings, supplementing them and improving them, giving them new spaces, acquiring social and cultural functions or areas of opportunity for new business.
The introduction of these seeds act as an initial point of colonisation of buildings, especially those who are currently not in use after the departure of the military bases.

REACTIVATION
The introduction of these seeds holds the objective to strengthen the entrance to the city and the area off the B38 highway, as an area of development and as opportunity for the city.
The progressive development of the proposal will transform the area into a centre of attraction and activity, resulting in a greater social and cultural affluence for Mannheim.
This activation strategy is particularly important in the former U.S. military bases, the large space left to the city after its abandonment, appears to be areas of great opportunity for creating a new contemporary city. This is unified by the expansion, consolidation and improvement of open spaces and green areas surrounding the scope, introducing and creating an image of the green city Mannheim wants to be.
